FREE Community Archaeological Workshop

Events_Page

My names Martin Cuthbert and I'm the Community Archaeologist for a 3  year Heritage Lottery Funded project exploring the legacy of the US 8th  Army Air
Force during their time in the East of England during World War  2. In my role I work with local communities and groups to explore the  surviving archaeology and structures that have been left behind, to  inspire them to learn more about their local history and to share my  knowledge of archaeological recording techniques.

From Monday 25th of January through to Saturday 30th January there is a FREE community event comprising archaeological building recording of the entire Martlesham Heath airfield.
The recording process is extremely straightforward and comprises a few photographs and small amount of paperwork on each structure. No previous experience is necessary and training will be given on site. The days will run from 10am-3pm and are very relaxed so you can come and help out for an hour, the day or the week, it's up to you. I've attached a poster to this email feel free to
use this.

Following the survey the data will then be added to the relevant County Council Historic Environment Record, an on-line database of historic monuments and archaeological find spots

Please click here for more information.

If you would like to come and help out then please contact me at martin@8theast.org or phone 07856 267936. More details will be provided upon booking. I apologise for the short notice re. this event any help
advertising or help recording would be greatly appreciated.
