Waldringfield Torchlight Procession & Pumpkin Feast
Date: Saturday 27th October
Format: it's all for fun, very casual. Come to the bits you want, take responsibility for yourselves and your children with the fire and hook up with friends/neighbours/family at The Maybush afterwards.
The Pumpkin Feast 5-7pm
For those who didn't attend last year The Pumpkin Feast is a 'Bring your own / tidy up after yourself' meal before the procession at the Village Hall. The idea is to make something out of the pumpkin flesh you normally throw away if you carve out a pumpkin - soup, cake etc. and to offer it up on the communal food tables for everyone to try. We'll judge the best this year if you want to enter your offerings!
* Click here for more info on Pumpkin Competition in Association with WALGA we will be judging pumpkins grown and/or carved by children, grandparents etc. - during the procession lit pumpkins will be left on the side of the road to light up the route.
Procession & Beach Click here for more info on Torchlight Procession
We will leave the Village Hall at 7pm prompt, so please have your torches lit and ready by then. The piper's fingers get cold so he won't hang around! :O) Please do not give lit torches to young children if you think they will burn themselves or, most importantly, other people. Nylon-free clothes are advised. The sky lanterns are wire-free and 100% bio-degradable. As a reminder they work by holding onto them as long as you can (fill them fully with hot air) and then releasing. If not they nose dive. We don't want that on a packed beach! Please ensure 2-3 adults launch each lantern. Helpers will be on the beach to assist.
The after-party: The Maybush Pub
The best place to meet people for drinks / food afterwards.
Elderly / less able neighbours?
Last year a few residents didn't come out because they don't go out in the dark or are unable to join in the procession. If you have a neighbour who you think would enjoy the evening but would only venture out if accompanied do consider bringing them with you - I'm sure they would appreciate it! Cars will also be available to transport people to the beach from the Village Hall.
Finally - we want this to continue as a fun, local event. So please continue to be careful with the fire, tidy up after yourselves and help others / join in to make it a memorable event!
Thanks...and see you then if you're free!
