Community Composting Workshops
Thursday 31st May, 10.00 am to approx. 11.15;
Saturday 2nd June 10.00 am to approx. 11.15;
Thursday June 7th 7.30 to approx. 8.15
(and at other times by arrangement)
These workshops are an opportunity to consider becoming one of the volunteers in the Waldringfield Community Composting project. We are offering at a reduced cost (depending on the level of funding we are able to secure) three different kinds of kit to deal with food waste. For the initial trial period of six months these will be free to use – we are looking for at least 30 trialers – ideally a minimum of ten for each kit. The workshops will show these in action.
The Waldringfield Community Composting project aims in the short term to help people deal with their food waste on-site. This is the most difficult part of dealing with ‘green’ waste and immediately makes composting garden waste easier and more possible – this is in line with government policy (Landfill Directive 2000: 33% of household waste to be recycled or composted by 2015). A long-term objective is to make ourselves as a village so good at dealing with food waste, garden weeds, grass clippings and woody waste that we no longer need a brown bin collection – but this is at least three years away, if achievable at all!
