Deben Estuary Partnership Meeting

We – the Deben Estuary Partnership (DEP), Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, and the Environment Agency - would like to invite you to a meeting on 12th March 2012 as a pre-consultation meeting about the Deben Estuary Plan. The Parishes of Martlesham, Waldringfield, Kirton, Hemley, Newbourne and Falkenham have been invited to this meeting, and we are extending the invitation to interested residents as well.

The meeting will be held at

Waldringfield Village Hall on 12 th March between 7pm and 9pm.

An agenda is included below.

The DEP is developing an Estuary Plan for the Deben with support from the Environment Agency and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB Unit.  The new partnership between these three organisations aims to deliver a plan that will incorporate flood risk management into a broader, community-based, estuary management approach, and we’d like to tell you more about it.

We hope you will be interested to hear about the work that the Environment Agency continues to carry out on estuary maintenance, about the data they record regarding sea wall heights, and their information on economic considerations.  We’d also like to tell you about some of the innovative work that that DEP members and landowners have already carried out within the estuary to fund and maintain river defences.

We would like to make sure that Parish Councillors and residents are aware of the new Deben Estuary Plan approach: your involvement will be key to the formation of this plan, and it is important that you understand how to contribute.

With that in mind, at this initial meeting, the Environment Agency would like to start to discuss the future management of flood defences within the Deben, and seek your views on the work we have done to date as well as on what could be done going forward.  We would like the Parishes to open up this invitation to their interested parishioners: We ask you to display these posters in your parishes so that interested local residents have the chance to attend.
